James Bond was ‘born’ in Jamaica

James Bond author, Ian Fleming, made Jamaica his home away from home and lived for many years in his second home there, aptly called GoldenEye. Jamaica features prominently in almost all of Fleming’s novels and he has been quoted as saying that the James Bond series would probably never have existed had he not fallen in love with the Caribbean island.

Orchids run wild
There are over 200 species of Orchids growing wild and of those 200, there are 73 species that can only be found on the island itself in part because of its tropical climate. With over 1000 species of trees and 500 species of ferns, Jamaica is one of the best places to see wild flora and fauna.
Shortage of Snakes
After Mongooses were imported in 1872 to rid the sugar cane fields of rats, the snake population also dropped drastically. Now it is very rare to encounter snakes in Jamaica. There are 8 native snake species on the island, none of which are venomous!
